Five Guys Burgers & Fries Reloaded

by Maddog on Jun.07, 2009, under Food

If you read my last post about Five Guys Burgers and fries forget about it.

Saturday I got hit with burger cravings.  So I remembered that when I went there last time it took them about ten mins to cook my burger and fries. So I decided to call ahead of time.  I called at exactly 6:26 pm.  I know this because that is the time that is on the printed receipt when I picked up the food. It almost matched the time on my watch (6:25 pm).  The person who answered the phone told me the food would be reading in about 10 minutes.

Now I get there exactly 10 minutes after I called.  Yes I planned it that way.  At that point I had to wait another 5 minutes for my food.   And the food was not worth the high price.   Since I ordered two burgers and two fries, it became much more clear to me how overpriced the food was. You see, last time I only ordered one of each so I didn’t see my error.

I can already hear you saying wow he’s complaining about waiting five minutes?
Here’s my point on the wait time.  There is one and only one reason I call and order in ahead of time, so I don’t have to wait for my food when I get there.  If it is going to take X amount of minutes before it is ready tell me “X + 5″ NOT “X – 5″.  In other words, I would rather be told 15 minutes and it be ready in 10, then be told 10 and it take 15.
Why would five minutes rub me the wrong way?
It is not the five minutes.  If I only ever had to wait five minutes extra (beyond how long I was told I’d have to wait) then an occasional 5 or even 10 minutes would be tolerable.  However, in the past there were plenty of times I called restaurants 15 to 20 minutes ahead of time and had to wait an additional half hour or more.  Hence, over the years I have developed an increasing intolerance for bullshit.  Now after waiting more than a few minutes I start having flashbacks.  Now let me make it clear, I have no problem waiting more than a few minutes if I was told in the beginning that is how long I have to wait.  The issue here is the dishonesty.  I have a thing about being lied to, and I learned over the years that I can usually tell when someone is being dishonest with me.  Most of the time people think they are fooling me because I usually don’t have enough information on the time to confirm it.  But every time I find collaborating info, I’ve been right.

Now if I have to wait to long and feel that I am being bullshitted hard, I will tell them, “I want my order now, or my money back NOW.”  Then I never go back.

I did eat my Burgers anf fries, and after paying the high price I was not impressed with the food.

So Five Guys Burgers & Fries is off the menu.
