The educational system in this country, and many in the so-called 'civilized' world is very lacking. Why can high school students now, not accomplish what third graders could at the beginning of this country? Education most certainly has not become any less important, but back when the quality of education in this country far surpassed any other, religious texts were also used as the basis for giving kids an education founded in morality. The bible is not an easy read, so they were stimulated with an example of good literature, which also gave these children a moral compass. Now we have drug use, and school shootings everywhere.
