Time to abolish government funded education

The 3rd circuit court of appeals in Philadelphia, ruled against reading pages from a bible in class.
An article can be found on Law.com
Now here is what grabbed my attention: “Writing for the court, 3rd Circuit Chief Judge Anthony J. Scirica said “parents of public school kindergarten students may reasonably expect their children will not become captive audiences to an adult’s reading of religious texts.”
When parents participate in an elementary school’s curricular activities, Scirica said, school officials have the right to require that the parents refrain from promoting specific messages in class.”
The problem is that the schools DO teach a religion already. The worship of the State, or Authority in general.
I thought it was hypocritical for the Judge to talk about children being a captive audience to religious indoctrination when that is exactly what schools were set up to do, not teach skills. They just happen to be teaching a different religion than what was found in the bible.
So in truth the courts were actually ruling out the competition.
This ruling is another argument for abolishing government schools. They waste a huge percentage of the GDP. As far as teaching skills, reading , math, science, they are failures by design. It also shows you can’t have religious freedom if the government funds and runs the schools. The very existence of the department of education is a violation of the establishment clause of the first amendment.
Until government schools can be abolished, parents should consider homeschooling.

You made some very good points. The educational system in this country, and many in the so-called ‘civilized’ world is very lacking. Why can high school students now, not accomplish what third graders could at the beginning of this country? Education most certainly has not become any less important, but back when the quality of education in this country far surpassed any other, religious texts were also used as the basis for giving kids an education founded in morality.
The bible is not an easy read, so they were stimulated with an example of good literature, which also gave these children a moral compass. Now we have drug use, and school shootings everywhere. Here is a video which explains it well:
